VENDORS OF THE WEEK
Mama Sattva Ghee
Mama Sattva ghee is made in Chico, Ca each month under the full moon and follows the traditional methods the ancients used for maximizing its “life-giving” healing properties. We play or sing ancient mantras to the ghee with the intention of magnifying its potency to bring optimal healing to whoever eats it. We also meditate over the ghee while it is being prepared, which we believe enhances the flavor and healing value.
The rich light flavor of our ghee originates from using the best quality pasture-raised, organic, cultured cow-butter from cows grazing on grass from Northern California dairies.
The exceptional grainy texture of our ghee makes it more medicinally valued, and our delicious buttery flavor comes from our carefully-kept low-temperature batches to ensure that all of the healing properties are kept intact and in their purest form.
We age our ghee for a minimum of 30 days at a constant 75 degree temperature.
The healing benefits found in butter become magnified through aging the ghee. It becomes even more granulated and richer in flavor. The fatty acids present in the ghee become more potent through the aging process making it incredibly healing for the mind and body. Like a fine wine, ghee becomes better with age.
Ghee has a smoke point of 485 degrees. The USDA considers it Non-Dairy (because all of the milk solids, lactose, and casein have been removed). They put ghee in the pure, stable, cooking oil category.
Ghee can be used as a spread or in place of butter.
Nana’s Artisan Bakery
Local Mom Susan Meagher started Nanas Artisan Bakery in 2009 after retiring from a career as a Buyer/Planning Manager for Macys and Gap to raise her son.
She has been baking and collecting recipes since she was 16, and starting Nanas was a dream come true.
New this year is a bigger emphasis on gluten free classics, and special orders now are available for any product with 24 hours notice, 7 days a week.
Nanas focuses on made-from-scratch classics such as Scones, Cinnamon Rolls, Fruit Pies, Cookies reminiscent of Grandma’s cookie jar, Cobblers, Apple Dumplings, and more. She uses local, organic fruit where possible.
This year, Nana can be found at the Northstar House Growers Market, Saturdays 8-12:30 starting April 13. Come for breakfast, hopefully still warm from the oven, enjoying Apricot White Chocolate Scones, Blueberry Coffee Cake, Peach Raspberry Pocket Pies, Lemon Cake with Organic Raspberry Coulis, Espresso Brownies, and much more.
