2009 NEVADA COUNTY CERTIFIED GROWERS’ MARKETS
October 31 will be the last Market of our 2009 season, and it will be special.
Local water color artist Mim Meakin will again lead and inspire kids as they decorate pumpkins. Frank Perry, of Perry Farms, has again donated the pumpkins that are the basis for impressive creations. Goodie bags include apples from Chris Bierwagen, of Donner Trail Fruit. Pumpkin decorating is from 9-11.
Juggler and story teller Izzy Tooinsky will also be on hand to entertain.
Of course, we are a Growers’ Market, and the Growers still have impressive offerings. Even this late in the season, the quality and variety is there. You’ll find delicious heirloom apples, several leafy greens, squash of all kinds, a rainbow of peppers, strawberries, carrots, beets, potatoes, garlic, shallots… Don’t want to wait until you get home to eat? Enjoy breakfast burritos, pasties, baked goods, and coffee.
This is the last Market before Christmas, and there are some good gift possibilities. You’ll see hand made soaps, wrought iron garden decorations, and dog treats made from natural ingredients. It will be cold soon, so check out the gloves, hats, scarves, and socks members of the Foothill Fiber Guild have made from local fiber animals — alpaca, sheep, cashmere goats, and angora rabbits.
Come out to the Nevada County Fairgrounds, 8-noon at Gate 4, and enjoy the final 2009 Market.
